This is in the Reporter and I hope that some of you can find some items to donate so they can help out this home.
Volunteers at the Casa de Ancianos old folks' home in Chapala are planning a whopping big garage sale in February. They are looking for treasures that can be sold at the sale, volunteers to work the event, collect donations, give donations and a place to house all of the donations until the event.
The Casa de Ancianos houses many elderly Mexicans and foreigners for a very little (or no) money. The manager, Marlene Dunham, does a superb job keeping them all healthy and happy, and the facility clean and bright. However, the existing buildings are aging and in need of repair. It's also very cold and volunteers are looking into solar energy and other ways to efficiently and effectively warm it up for the winter months. They are also exploring the possibility of more efficient buildings to house these folks.
To find out more about how you can help, contact Marilyn Needham at (376) 765-4412.
I know of a person that lives there that was just dumped there and they have hardly any money to help with the living expenses and Marlene did not turn this person away and is taking care of this person just like anyone else there that is paying. It is a very much needed place and one day one of us might end up there.
Please think about how you can help.
Thanks
