In my case I was referring to something darker - learned from my wife who has been providing senior care for over 40 years, that the older you get, the more you revert back to the language, culture and memories of your early upbringing. My Grandfather, who died at 98, seldom talked of his youth when younger, especially the war, but in his later years he told me many stories, and I think, an even stronger English accent. The other darker side, which must be resolved in an emigration strategy, is that if you get too many friends and aquaintances of the same age group - then they all start dropping off at the same time.

I'm afraid that our friends dropping off is just....life. It's good to have younger friends as well as older ones, but finally, as you are born alone, you die alone. Better enjoy your own company.

I fail to see what all this learning spanish, not learning spanish, has to do with finding furniture for Sparks.

If Sparks were going to San Miguel, I could make him a helluva good deal on a houseful of it, which we are going to be hauling off to a consiignment store since our new tenants have their own.
See, I tried. I have sillas, mesas, etc. ....but alas, Joco is one long drive from SMA.

You are no doubt right Wen, if it were only weather there are so many places in the highlands that all have the same sub-tropical weather as Chapala. I know that the tropics are not for everyone - thank goodness - but I just thought there were a lot of other more interesting highland locations to choose from.

I love Shoe's comment 'it's just another dirty beach town', that has stuck in my head all day. We had to go out to the Gulf to pick up our RV and move it into the city today. Driving into Chelem, I kept thinking 'just another dirty beach town' and I realized that I've loved all of the ones I've been in on this continent. The line just has a great Jimmy Buffet sound to it. I love dirty beach towns, sand floored seafood restaurants, tiny shops selling 6 tomatoes and 2 tired heads of lettuce, stands selling coco bien frio y pay de coco, sand streets and mangy dogs. Cold beer, cold coco and hot sand... love it!

***hmmm I seem to have missed a whole page of comments after the one from Wen I was referring to. Oh well, I doubt it matters.

Road trip! Road trip!

Road trip with good sized truck or trailer!! "Easy" drive. 4 or 5 hours, mostly on quotas. Terrifying section going through Guad.
Aieeeee! Monster trucks and doubles. Buses, crazy macho drivers..........but a road trip.
