I really want this on demand water heater to work, I'm getting doubtful though. We have the Bosch, I forget how large. It turns on when you turn on the hot faucet, runs for X amount of time and then turns off if you add cold water to the mix. This is not a good thing in the middle of a shower. The only thing that has been working has been a tip from Elke in Melaque that I leave the hot faucet in the sink running while I shower. That does work. It seems ridiculous though and I always forget until I get frozen and then have to run out of the shower to turn it on and wait shivering for the water to get hot again.

The architect doesn't think it should work this way either and is encouraging us to return it for a traditional hot water tank. He is bringing over a Bosch technician to look at it and see if all its parts are working correctly. I've googled every way I could figure and haven't found this kind of problem. I would love to keep it as I like the savings in gas but when you combine this trait with how long it takes for hot water to get downstairs it is becoming such a waste of water that it negates any environmental pluses.

Sure hate to rain on your parade, Jonna, but I put a Bosch in a house 2 years ago and had the same problem. The owners eventually replaced it with a Cinsa "calentador de paso" and have been quite happy.

Dear "shivering" in Merida, I like demanding women but the type of water heater you have is designed for sinks and tubs.

Well, the Bosch 'technician' came today, not sure but I think he is another electrician that has installed a few. He turned the dial all the way down that has the gas flame icon, he referred to it as turning the 'flame' down all the way. He turned the temperature dial all the way up. He told me to turn on only the hot for 30 seconds, then sloooowly add the cold water but not more than half way. Of course, it stayed on the entire time they were here. We'll try it this way for awhile and decide. It does bother me to let the water just run down the drain for so long, especially downstairs where it can take 3 minutes to get hot water in the kitchen. Really, there are 2 problems with it. The hot water shutting off, which they may have fixed, and how long it takes to get downstairs. I may have to give up on it too. It's too bad, it is a great concept and from what I've been told it saves a lot of gas.

I know Arbon, hard to believe I'm shivering in Mérida when you are locked in the ice chest up there. It's true though, it has been cold the last week especially at night. It got into the high 50's F (which is almost 15C for you who are stuck in the decimal system) and for those of us who are used to warm that was hot water bottle and down comforter weather. Thankfully, it has warmed up today, it's quite pleasant tonight with all the doors and windows open.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I have heard of others having problems with Bosch.

Personally I would never buy ANY Bosch product including their crappy stoves.

My Mexican Physical Therapist swears by "Cinsa" for water heaters.

It sounds like its more of a problem with 'calibrating' the flow of the new system, more than the brand of heater. The Japanese, the Germans and the Italians have been making these heaters for over fifty years. Its sounds like you have worked it out. I am looking for a tankless for my jogging pool (until I can afford a heat pump/chiller) and this is a good article: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Green-Ho ... eater.aspx

Your water system will evolve with the house Jonna. Have you thought of any solar type stuff?

You're right Tio - this MPT does seem to have a Svengali grip on our poor John. Luckily, it seems the MPT has finally scraped together enough pesos from listening to whiney, pinche, cheapskates to start an eight unit care home. Anyone who could tolerate an hour with Johninajijic, must have the patience and stamina of Mother Teresa, and ideally qualified for care of the feeble!
