Seven of us from our Bi Monthly Dinner group ate at YVES restaurant on Friday night. They have a very limited menu on a chalkboard that consists of Filet Mignon, Ribe Eye, Porterhouse steak, Lamb Chops, BBQ Ribs, Fish Filet (Sea Bass) and Shrimp done in a Beer, Garlic and Butter sauce.

One person ordered Porterhouse steak and said it was good, Three people had Lamb Chops (4 chops) and said they were good, One had Sea Bass and liked it, Two of us had BBQ Ribs. The meals came with Baked Potato with cheese and bacon bits and a few veggies. The two who had BBQ Ribs said they were OK. There were too few ribs and they didn't have much meat on them. We had BBQ Ribs at TONY'S which had more than twice the meat for $ 40. pesos less. One of the three people who had Lamb Chops didn't like them and said she wouldn't return.

IMHO, YVES needs to rethink their prices at $ 95. pesos for lunch and $ 135. pesos for Dinner. It's more than the average Ajijic restaurant. In these difficult times, people are looking for VALUE in a restaurant and restaurants need to cater to the NOB types, if they are to survive.

Some of the positives for YVES. They have the best salad bar in town. It's all you can eat. With your meal is a choice of soup or salad. Everyone loved their salads and there were many different items to put in your salad. One person got a huge bowl of Green Pepper soup and loved it. It was creamy and delicious. I tasted it too and it was one of the best I've had in Ajijic.

The service was EXCELLENT. Our waiter was Roberto, formerly from La Bodega. He was really attentive to all our needs.

Next time you're in that area, go in for a cocktail or glass of wine and enjoy the beautiful view of the Lakefront or partake in Lunch.

We sat upstairs behind the glass and should have sat in the open terrace area as it was hot as heck with the sun pouring in. The BBQ smoke goes up the end of the building and you go home smelling like a BBQ grille.

Another negative for people with walking difficulties, it is a long walk over uneven terrain with steep steps for access from the lakefront parking area which should be open for the restaurant.

We will not return only due to the negatives above, but I think newcomers should judge it for themselves as we all have different tastes.

This is true of any high or low end restaurant, anywhere: If the owner isn't right there most of the time paying attention to business by making sure the cook/chef and the waitstaff are communicating the needs of those being served, it will fail. Period.

There are more reliable places to choose from. Who needs the aggravation of sending your meat back to the kitchen? Other places do it right the first time.

I liked the salad bar, but in a two storey building with steep metal steps going upstairs, the trip back can get downright perilous....with a filled plate and possibly a bowl of soup in hand. Maybe he should set up on both levels.

The soup is served at your table upstairs.

I am handicapped, so a friend got the salad for me.

When we do BBQ, you just gotta Knock the horns off & Wipe it's ass
Throw it on a plate , With a beer ..... An it's all Good!! ;)
