I always knew I would have made a really bad eskimo.
Seriously, we do adjust pretty well. I lived some 40 years in the SF Bay Area and for a girl from southern Calif that was pretty cold. It was OK, I missed the sun but once I discovered tan parlors I could get my dose of radiation fairly regularly. Now, I've been here in the Yucatan for 2 years without leaving and for one year without AC. I think I really would suffer for awhile if I had to return to a temperate climate, but I would eventually adjust. Same with altitude. It bothers me a lot but if I stayed above sea level I would eventually be more comfortable. I've heard it takes a year to adjust to elevations over 3k' but not that long to adjust to heat or cold. I think what is probably hardest on us is when it goes back and forth like it does in the mid latitudes. I can't see how you would ever adjust to freezing half the year and steaming the other half, but humans seem pretty good at it. I still believe the naked rule is best, if you can't live outside naked and be comfortable you should move.
