So last night was into the mid 50's and below. It feels cold for someone up from the beach. Anyone know where there are easy to read weather records to see what temps might be like this winter. I've even been advised to buy a heater early to avoid the rush

Scroll down to see the weather data for Guadalajara, Mexico....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guadalajara,_Jalisco... I could not find one specific to Chapala area...
Speaking from experience from living on the North side and periodically on SS... A heater is a must if you are a cold natured person..The weather will vary greatly from 1 year to the next..I have seen ice in the dogs outside water bowl in Dec. one year and in Dec. the following year I would turn on the fans in the house..

Invest in some good blankets for your bed and warm jammies, also layer your clothing. You will find it hot out in town walking and shopping. Then 20 minutes later, be walking down the street in the shade you can become chilled.

A heater a must?? Maybe... I have 3 but am selective in using them...Mainly to heat up the bathroom..I cook a large meal in the evening to help warm the house and same for breakfast as just using the stove will warm the house to an acceptable temperature w/ proper layered clothing in the cooler months living lakeside!

If it were me Sparks, I'd buy several heaters, long johns and a pair of Ugs. We were in Ajijic one Thanksgiving and everyone was hanging out in our RV because we were the only place with central heating. Bloody cold.

We have 2 small dogs that heat up the bed. Also we bought memory foam mattress that holds more body heat than a traditional mattress.

And that is an average low. I know it got close to freezing in Patzcuaro but that is 2000 ft higher. Guess those cats I kick off my bed every night will have to stay

Hot or cold depends on the person telling the tale. Jonna would be freezing anywhere, I suspect. :D
Most of our Mexican neighbors in central Ajijic are bundled up to the eyeballs by December.

We have some skylights that heat up the house when the sun shines. In fact, the only heater we have is a small one in the bathroom for bath time. We brought in a load of mesquite last winter and when we lit the fire, we soon had to open the windows to let out some of the heat.

Ugg boots? Seldom. Nice warm comforter ought to do the job at night. Daytime: dress in layers.

For local weather, Stevebrtx has a weather site that works for his area near Chapala. I think it's in his posts. Around Joco, it can be way different.

At least you won't get drowned out in a hurricane. Welcome.

It's true, I have no cold tolerance. Even so, 45°F is cold in anyone's book. I had my fuzzy slippers on down here in Mérida last night. It had to have gone down into the 70's!!

Humans are infinitely adaptable. Think of the first settlers to North America, who came across the Siberian land bridge. No tribes, abundant game and food, no time share salespeople - as they headed south, it just got warmer and warmer. Yet, think about it - the Inuit stayed in the north, living on ice and whalemeat, never roaming far from home for generation after generation.
