Innocent people don't usually get shot in Mexico for no reason.

They are usually involved with drugs or drug trade.

Yeah....go tell that to all the people caught in the cross fire in some of the US/Mexico border towns and at that mall in Mazatlan last year.

I saw the results of the attack on the Federale Police station in Patzcuaro. Yes the facility was riddled with bullet holes but there were five or six "innocent" vehicles that were killed by stray bullets at the PEMEX station across the street! Were they involved in the "drug trade"? I kind of doubt it! Just another generalization by a Gringo with his head in the sand!

Yeah I don't understand why some of the gringos that live Lakeside seem to have their heads up their ass when it comes to crime problems. They take this defensive stand that is pure denial. Are they fooling themselves so they won't be afraid while living there? Are they afraid their family won't come and visit if they think the crime is high? Are they afraid their Real Estate value will plummet if potential expats decide to go elsewhere?

I live in Vancouver and will be the first to say there is crime problems, drug problems, murders, rapes, etc but I don't deny that it exists or say that anyone who is killed is "probably involved in the drug trade" to try and minimize or isolate the issue.

I know all about the crime in Mexico yet it doesn't stop me from visiting every year or change my plans to move there in a couple of years. When people ask me about the crime there I say yes there is crime just like every other place in the world. Yes, they do have serious drug cartel problems almost as bad as what Columbia had a few years ago however in all the times I have been there I have never seen any of this. I don't deny the facts. I would rather address them and plan on how to avoid it.

Cheers,

Bob

Drugs, I thought that decriminalizing drugs was going to stop this? They found out what real Moose Head was. The RCMP says two Canadian men killed in Mexico were involved in the drug trade.

Did you think that this 30 year war on drugs - zero tolerance would stop it as well?

CanuckBob - If you're STUPID enough to be in a dangerous border town, you might get gunned down by accident,

Never heard of anything happening in Mazatlan. Are you confusing Mazatlan with Morelia?

You are safe if you live outside of the drug corridors and are not involved with drugs or the cartels.

The guys who were gunned down were involved in the drug trade.

That is like saying If I have insurance nothing will ever happen to me cause I have insurance.

Or, I eat in the best restaurants therefore I will never get food poisoning or hepatitis. Cause we all know the board of health checks the best resturants on a monthly basis in Mexico, especially in Ajijic. [ INSERT SARCASM HERE]

Just like they check restaurants in the States. Restaurants are full of cockroaches.

John... That's the point...Anything can and does happen sometimes somewhere,... Even in the best of neighborhoods, restaurants etc etc...

No matter how vigilant or how well you think you are in the know or your friends think they are in the know!!

It is what we learn after we know it all, that really counts "not what we think we know".
