They came from outer space a half-century ago and landed in Mexico, where moviegoers embraced big-headed freaks in Mylar tights and busty female invaders from Venus. Fighting for the survival of Earth: mummies, wrestlers and mad scientists.

These unsung heroes of vintage Mexican cinema mesmerized south-of-the-border moviegoers for a decade in low-budget pictures that threw together science, sex and action with low-budget abandon.

Funny how in all the old alien movies, aliens wear skimpy, metallic colored clothing usually with capes, and the aliens are always the bad guys. Then we went through a spell of aliens who eat humans. I wonder how they developed a taste for humans if they evolved without ever eating humans? It's like us having a need to eat aliens. As unscientific and laughable as they were, I still loved the old sci-fi movies when I was growing up.

There is actually a phrase for this that I learned inmy film class, way back in college. It is the willing suspension of disbelief. It works, too.
