I was told that the flying ants are not ants, but termites. I'd call an exterminator and find out.

Thanks Jonna. I sent their picture to an enthomologist friend of mne and he assured me they were not termites. Not all flying ants eat wood. We will see.

No idea if it's true!

Diatomaceous earth works very well indeed to get rid of ants; though it doesn't kill the nest. It definitely discourages them and they will move somewhere else. Lizzy

Oh good, I'm glad you checked Brigitte.

All I remember about flying ants is that the Maya left the last 200 surviving Mexicans holed up in the cathedral here in Mérida, basically goners to the Mayan army, and went home to plant their corn because when the ants fly it is time to plant. A year later, the Mexican army arrived and slaughtered thousands and thousands of Maya in revenge. They called it the Caste War and the flying ants played a big role.

But apparently as fast as they multiply, they all get wood.

One good thing about fire ants in the garden, if you have pets the fire ants will kill fleas in the yard. Regular ants will kill harmful pests on plants especially flowers and tomatoes.

Pam, uh, uh, uh, I think most importantly, who is going to kill the ants?

That is just stupid SallyAnne something for Amy Lee. The best thing to use is Martha White Self Rising Corn Meal (with hot rise plus). The ants eat the little bitty chunks of meal and when the moisture in their bodies soaks into the meal it rises and renders them a bunch of grossly obese little sumbitches who promptly explode, and that's the gospel truth. Now in Lousiana, we learnt not to put out the meal right before a hot summer rain as you end up with a yard full of frickin biscuits and then ya have ta run off all the other critters.

Oh hush. Sharpie .... you're just ticked off because you just realized that you were named for prehistoric one celled organisms whose only useful purpose is to rip up ant bellies.

You know, I am getting tired of your smart assed comments. I have found that what they were telling me all through school and beyond is true, “Nobody likes a smart ass”, so there.
