Mexico nabs suspected cartel leader without a shot

Friday 20th March, 04:32 AM JST

MEXICO CITY —
A purported top leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel was in police custody Thursday, as authorities extended a cross-border crackdown on the gang that has included the arrest of 755 of its members in the U.S.

Vicente “El Vicentillo” Zambada was arrested before dawn Wednesday at a home in an elite Mexico City neighborhood, said Gen. Luis Arturo Oliver, the Mexican Defense Department’s deputy chief of operations.

My question was more to do with this article... http://www.statesman.com/news/content/g ... Texas.html
Why are the people demonstrating to have the soldiers withdraw from that scene? If the article is accurate it seems to show that the populace is behind the narcos.

Wynot ~ From what I hear, the narcos are pressing (or paying for) the population to "protest" in order to cause further obstruction and confusion. Seems to be working to some degree. Lizzy

bobnliz...From various reports out there it appears that the 50's, 60's, 70"s Leftist groups, e.g. Marxist, Trotskyist, Maoist, etc. in South and Central America, have since converted to the drug cartel business to raise money to challenge and de-stabilize their Governments and that the same thing is now happening in Mexico. Apparently, that is why the anti-army demonstrations in Mex. where so widespread and organized.
Seems that there are leginimate complaints of human right and soldier abuse in Mexico but no doubt there is support from political parties challenging Calderone by helping to organize demonstrations as well.

The authorities arrested a drug trafficker on Friday who was accused of organizing an armed attack on the United States Consulate in the northern city of Monterrey last October, President Felipe Calderón said. The suspect, Sigifredo Nájera, was also accused of torturing and killing nine soldiers in the northern state of Nuevo León the same month. A leader of the feared Gulf Cartel, Mr. Nájera is also linked by the authorities to a grenade attack on a television station in Monterrey in January. Mr. Najera, known by the nickname El Canicón, was arrested in Saltillo, a northern city.
