I was shocked to read in the paper this morning that half of all babies born in Lerdo are to mothers between 14 and 16 years of age.

The schools and the health department are starting a program to educate the kids. "The topics to be discussed at the talks are: Methods of family planning, violence, obesity, addiction and teenage pregnancy." It's not exactly sex education, but it's a first step.

I wouldn't say it is shocking news,14 to 18 yr olds all over the world have been having babies since the beginning of time as we know it. It just isn't PC anymore for a young teen to have sex, and in some countries as you know there are laws against it. When a young womans reproductive system is mature, it could care less about what media and the general public think.

I'm surprised they are so old and wait so long. It is a cycle of poverty and a lack of education. They need to encourage the girls to educate themselves, wait or use condoms and not trust guys.

But then you become a real part of 'the family' once there's a kid. Everybody loves the baby, sharing of babysitting and house work .... and the young man gets a few meals a week even if he doesn't live with the primary family which is often run by females

A little like US wefare families but without government supervision
