No, Pedro most real men like me. Of course, I don't talk to men who are like you when I'm out also I'm just not your type, I can speak English and my knuckles don't drag when I walk.

Thanks Jonna, I'd forgotten that rhyme.

Quote:
Garyngo: Living in a part of the world with mostly garter snakes (non-poisonous) and rattle snakes in the desert/drylands. I would be frightened of a milk snake Lakeside cuz they have red stripes. As Tamal posted, these are non-poisonous. Here is one link: http://www.applegatereptiles.com/species/arcifera.htm

Those are some beautiful snakes. The only ones I've seen around here are what I think of as garter snakes. Now that I remember the rhyme, thanks to Jonna, if I run across one of those Milk snakes I'll know what to do.

I had a neighbor when I was growing up who was hysterically afraid of snakes. Her motto was " The only good snake is a dead snake" ( Every snake is potentially a bad snake in my book) didn't matter if it were harmless and beneficial. She was nasty tempered and spitefull, not a whole lot of fun to be around and she treasured an imagined slight like the Hatfields and McCoys. I didn't think I'd ever run into her again as that was many years ago and several thousand miles away. But looking back over the postings.....Nellie Jo? Is that you?

Funny, but oh so true.

As a re-activated armchair psychologist.
Endangered species or overunning this forum. You decide.

Fear of snakes. And other living things.
For some(many) people ranks right up there.

Cultural prejudices vs primordial?
Put most of my money on cultural.

One of the first things I try to do, moving into unfamiliar 'territory' is to try to find out factually.
What to watch for; indentification of species.
What to immediately to 'do' if bitten, stung, etc.
What prudent follow-up, home or hospital.

As they say in México:

Un hombre preparado(y mujeres tambien...ja!jaaa!)

Vale por dos.

If your snakes have markings similar to a coral snake and you are not sure about it, not to worry. The coral snake has such a small mouth, it would take a decent amount of time to chew himself into position to use his fangs. Plenty of time to release him from you before he can cause harm. Snakes aren't the problem, its people that don't know what they are doing with them. With few exceptions, snakes will either try to warn you (rattlers) or bolt and hide. My brother and I grew up playing with all sorts of snakes, including 17 different poisonous types while living in Taiwan for 2 1/2 years. We hardly died at all.

Rico, go to the link so you will know what Nature's Oddity is. I think you will reconsider your answer.
