Shh had mentioned in another thread that Sir Berner-Lee, a Brit, and CERN, a Swiss think tank - invented the internet. What she probably didn't know is that he immigrated to the U.S. soon afterwards, and it was the U.S.A. which really popularized and commercialized it. Likewise, it was, and still is, a Brit who designed most Apple products in last few years - now a happy American.

But there are rapid changes in the world. The CERN and Europe is now the mecca for physicists. Canada and Ireland are meccas for medical researchers. I am sure there are many more examples, in many other fields. This is important to Mexico because there are new destinations/possibilities for her brightest and most talented. Important to the U.S.A., if they want to continue to attract the 'best'.

JAR JAR! Mexico is brain drain of another type for you retirees though - just sit in the sun, be happy, feel your brain drain away into its afternoon nap!

What I was referring to was the competing for minds on a global basis. Here is a recent Atlantic article:

Its think the U.S. immigration is on top of this -for example I believe immigration reform was mentioned that would allow foreigners to officially retire in the U.S.A. (if they got the $$$$). Canada had a bad experience with this, and cancelled it in 1996 - because the universal health care system was being abused (retirees are supposed to be self insured). This would be much easier to enforce in the U.S.A.

Anyways - nothing to stop Mexico from promoting in this market - I just thought a "reverse brain drain" theme would be funny - and effective, like those Corona beer commercials.
