That's what caused the problem, fix the place up and the rent is increased.

Everyone slams the poor landlord :(
I've been renting properties for 20 years and can tell you, havin a renter who does improvements is a rare thing indeed!

One I can recall, was someone who fixed a banister railing...
He reset the spindles using 3 1/2" ardox nails.... This after his party guests removed them

That's what caused the problem, fix the place up and the rent is increased.

In most cases the above would explain why one becomes a hardnose, irritable, cynical and negative person who comes to dislike welfare and trailer court trash.

I wonder if you could write into the rental agreement that the rent couldn't be jacked up or the tenant be required to move if the tenant fixes the place up?

Yes my heart bleeds for the landlords and the the tax persons who have to laugh at all the maintenance that is claimed for by all the masochists and Shylocks that freeze on the prairies when they could move to "LaLa Land" across the Pacific.

Without a doubt, the biggest A-Hole in this conversation has been johnnyboy with his arrogant attitude towards those that would dare to admit living within their means in one of the "look down your nose" neighborhoods rather than in a premier gated community. Makes me wonder if there wasn't a rather large insurance settlement involved here that provided johnnyboy with the money to buy in over his head?

With respect to "hockables" comments - anyone who has rented during their lifetime knows full well that all landlords are not created equal. As with any other group one runs across in life, there are the good ones and the bad apples! If he acts as stated, he may be one of the good ones!

Another negative remark by chinagringo who doesn't live in Mexico. Talk about arrogant A-HOLES, that's the pot calling the kettle black. Nothing to do living within your means looking for a $250. USD rental, which is near impossible to find or is such a dump, no one would live there. People need to look at the general cost of rentals that run from a low of $ 400. - $ 1,800. USD at Lakeside. Yes, lots of homes in Ajijic rent for between $ 1,000 - $ 1,500. USD.

As far as premier Gated Communities, Los Arroyos Sur is one of those which you can tell by types, sizes and sales prices of homes. This is not to say that it's THE BEST, but it is ONE of the BEST. There are others like Los Arroyos, Arroyo Encantado, Las Salvias, Arroyo Alto, etc.

Yeah, sure I bought in over my head. NOT. I bought wisely in year 2000, when prices were right and enjoyed the home while it appreciated, unlike those who waited for price drops and paid $ 100K more for less house.

In over my head. NOT. This house has NO mortgage unlike chinagringo's overpriced ABQ home where he pays exhorbitant taxes and cannot sell it, even if he wanted to.
