Not at all. I see your point. Doing improvements by replacing spindles with 3 1/2" nails is not the kind of help that a landlord needs....although better than a grow op.

I wonder if you could write into the rental agreement that the rent couldn't be jacked up or the tenant be required to move if the tenant fixes the place up?

In Mexico DF, the rent can't be raised by more than 10%. I think I have it somewhere that the law is the same in Jalisco. If the tenant has rented the premises for three years or more, the landlord is required to notify the tenant that the lease is changing and give the tenant time to reply. If the tenant doesn't reply, the landlord is required to give the tenant more time to reply. Rent cannot be more than 10% of what the landlord reports the property is worth on his taxes. There are all sorts of landlord/tenant laws that protect the tenant. If the landlord is non-Mexican, the landlord is required to have a license to be able to rent property and pay up to 40% of the rent in taxes to Hacienda (Mexico IRS) depending on whether it is furnished or not.

My friend has found more than adequate housing at a more than adequate price.
I wish to thank all of you who expressed sincere concern and suggestions.

And to note with, perhaps naive, wonder at how soon the discussion
included petty squabbles,

And, to express amazement at the contempt of he (they?) who believes that having the most money means he has the biggest dick.

You know we are very sensitive on this board so watch the language, and Johnny knows he doesn't have the biggest dick, or do you mean being the biggest dick because someone else holds that title.

Do you see yourself in everything I write? Talk about grandiosity. It's not always all about Pedro.
