I spent part of the morning with my friend Adriana while she made frijoles chinitos. This was new to me and a most welcome change from the usual refried beans.

I love beans, any type. Rolly do you think Peruano Beans could be what we call Navy beans. The size and colour look very similar. Navy beans make good baked beans. I doubt that I'll find Peruana so will have to try with navy ones.

No, they are not much like navy beans. I think they are closer to butter beans in taste, certainly not in appearance, but I think I would try butter beans if the peruanas are not available.

Remember this old gem?

Beans, Beans, the musical fruit,
The more you eat, the more you toot!

The more you toot, the better you feel,
So make beans your next meal.

Learned from a mispent youth in the Boy Scouts.

Yes, navy beans are small and white. There are also Great Northern beans. Look the same as navy but larger. Both good when soaked, boiled then baked in a crock pot with salt pork or bacon, maple syrup or molasses, dry mustard, brown sugar and salt, a bit of chopped onion.
