These leaves are great to cook in, especially on the grill. We buy them frozen, they are imported from the Philippines, but they are the same type as everywhere - one variety even grows in Vancouver (leaves only). The first batch was Chinese "sticky rice" for which there are many recipes. These freeze very well and are microwaved to reheat.

Last night I made some bundles with corn masa, a whitefish fillet, some miso paste, ginger, green onions, cilantro - double wrapped with the leaves, tack together with skewers (string will burn) - about 1 foot square of leaf to start, and put it direct on the grill. The leaves burn a bit, giving flavor,and it was real good, especially with some green chile hot sauce. I realized afterwords that this is a 0 fat, low carb meal that is tasty, and that you get to 'burn' the plates rather than wash them.

This style of 'baked package' cooking is an element of French cuisine called 'en papilotte', if you are looking for recipe ideas.

Anyways - well worth the effort and a lot easier than you might think.

You forgot to mention...if you use leaves on the bbq soak them in cold water for 30 min. or so, very little of them will burn and will provide steam to the inside.
Have been doing the whole ear of Jubilee and Peaches & Cream corn on the cob like that lately. Good if you enjoy that extra "earthy" flavour. Hot on the fingers to husk though.
Over high heat, turn every 7 min. for 21 minutes.

Bananas do not grow on trees, they are a herb.

I couldn't resist sending in this recipe from the Naked Chef, Jamie Oliver;

http://www.jamieoliver.com/foodwise/article-view.php?id=2429&jo_home_45

Pasta with clams, steam/baked in a banana leaf instead of parchment paper, on the grill instead of the oven.

This would be real simple and a great entertainer (mind you not everyone likes clams)
