SUBJECT: H1N1 Influenza Information

This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens to the latest information regarding human cases of 2009-H1N1 influenza, sometimes referred to as novel H1N1 or swine flu. As of October 9, 2009, the Jalisco Secretary of Health has reported 1,955 confirmed cases of H1N1 with 24 deaths in Jalisco and 36,593 confirmed cases of and 248 deaths in all of Mexico. Statistics are reported publicly every 48 hours on the Jalisco Secretary of Health’s website at http://informacioninfluenza.jalisco.gob.mx/. Mexican authorities have taken measures to screen for symptoms in public facilities and schools and directed hospitals to take appropriate actions to care for patients presenting those symptoms, sometimes including quarantines or isolation. In airports all travelers may be subject to screening and futher examination or isolation for those presenting symptoms of the virus. Mexican authorities may prevent those suspected of carrying the virus from traveling by plane.

If you are quarantined or placed in isolation due to 2009-H1N1 influenza, please contact the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara at the number below and let us know, so we can monitor your situation. However, please be aware that the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara cannot demand your immediate release if you have been detained or quarantined in accordance with local public health and legal authorities.

Due to legal restrictions and a lack of sufficient resources, the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara is not in a position to provide private citizens with pandemic-related supplies, medications or medical treatment, including vaccines, and cannot provide specific medical advice. Questions and concerns about influenza or other illnesses should be directed to a medical professional. A list of local hospitals and doctors can be found on our website at http://guadalajara.usconsulate.gov/.

For more information on how to prepare for a severe pandemic, please see the State Department "Pandemic Influenza Fact Sheet" and "Options During a Pandemic" flyer located on http://www.travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara . Registration is important; it allows the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara and the State Department to assist you in an emergency.

In other words, we don't do anything for our citizens. I'm so sick of the damn US embassy and their lack of support. All they do is send out scare mail and then say they won't help. I would love to go through that govt agency with a big machete and completely change their job and priorities. Instead of only being of use to US business and investments, let the businesses pay for their services and turn the agency into one that serves its citizens. It's a huge waste of my tax money and they could close them all and it wouldn't change anything for the average citizen.
